Nitrome Pixel Love Wiki

At the end of 2019, I downloaded Flashpoint with the intention of having access to Nitrome's full browser catalogue once Flash went down. That, of course, didn't work out, although I considered Pixel Love games to be a weird sort of indirect extension to Nitrome. While these were games made by people mostly separate from Nitrome, their presence on an aggregated site created this little sub-world that existed alongside Nitrome.

Nonetheless, upon getting Flashpoint, one of the earliest things I did was to put together a playlist of all Pixel Love games available there. Unlike Nitrome games, Pixel Love games were made by a multitude of developers, some whose works weren't on Flashpoint at the time. I even had the chance to curate a few Pixel Love games myself (although the Unity ones were an entirely different beast).

Fast forward to about three years later, where Pixellovegames.com is no longer active and Flash and Unity web player games mostly exist under the folds of preservation projects like Flashpoint, I decided to finally get the latest version of Flashpoint and reattempt putting together a Pixel Love playlist. Because I can't reorder games in a Flashpoint playlist, I decided to just start over from scratch.

(By the way, if you have Flashpoint version 10.1, you can download and import the Pixel Love playlist I made here)

As of the latest Flashpoint version 10.1, it is possible to play all but 3 of the games featured on Nitrome's Pixel Love. Here are some details on the three games I couldn't find and whether they're playable elsewhere or not:

Not on Flashpoint[]

Push[]

This game was on the Flashpoint Games Master List in 2019, but nowhere to be seen in the program itself due to the game being broken upon launch. Even though I have no clue, I think the game depended on certain things that let you build levels and share them with a community, and that depended on the entire game to work maybe?

It's unfortunate that the game is unplayable on Flashpoint, but I did manage to find a workable version on Bonuslevels.org and was able to play it using Pale Moon. Granted, this version doesn't have the same menu screen as the original game, but all the levels are present and playable, as far as I can tell. Plus I get to hear the music, which is nice.

Yojimbrawl[]

Unfortunately, this game was removed from the Free Lives website entirely, so playing it is just not possible, as far as I can tell. Perhaps someone out there has saved some version of it that is still playable, but the fact that this also requires Unity web player to run could make it a pretty big hindrance. At least you can still see some footage of the original jam version out there.

A curated version of Yojimbrawl does exist on the Flashpoint Discord server, but it wasn't added to Flashpoint for some reason. I might try downloading the curated version to see if importing it to Discord works.

EDIT: After downloading the curated version off the Flashpoint Discord and importing it, I can confirm that this version does work - at least with the latest build of Flashpoint.

Tough Love Machine[]

I was surprised that this particular game wasn't added to Flashpoint, seeing as it was mentioned to be in the next Flashpoint update in 2021. But for whatever reason, I can't find it under the name or the developer's name, for that matter. However, the game can still be found on Newgrounds, so you could visit the game page and launch it in the Newgrounds Player - at least, that's how I was able to play it just now.

Conclusion[]

Out of 170 Pixel Love games, only 3 cannot be played on Flashpoint, and 1 of them seems to be completely unplayable and untraceable for the time being. That's not too bad, given the circumstances! I'm still unsure of how to handle links and stuff on the Pixel Love game pages, but I'm only just now looking back on this wiki, so I don't know how soon I will actually get around to doing a lot of significant stuff here. Call me crazy, but I still have a fascination with Pixel Love games and Flashpoint has only served to fuel my curiosity even more.
